The Values that guide the work

Creativity: We’re born creators, we can’t help it. We’re incessantly building, making, cooking, drawing, and reshaping the world around us—bringing new into the world every day. We believe that creativity is a process that can be harnessed and leveraged to continually narrow the gap between the world as it is, and the potential we see for it.

Craftsmanship: We take our work seriously and believe that if something’s worth making, it’s worth making the right way — using the right tools for the job, the best materials, and building things to last. We take our process seriously, and we stand by what we produce.

Collaboration: Everything is better when people come together. There is potential in every new connection or unexpected perspective. We can’t do this alone (and even if we could… we wouldn’t want to), and we believe life is better when you’re making friends along the way.

Doing Good: We believe in supporting clients who are working to make the world a better place. This takes many forms — the power washing service working hard every day keeping the community clean; the neighborhood nonprofit offering support and resources; the restaurant that feeds and nourishes, the company crafting solutions that make life easier — all of them are doing their part, and we’re here to help.

Owner/Creative Director Caleb Prue has shaped brands in many roles: as leader of an in-house creative team growing a mission-driven nonprofit, working as part of an agency supporting national and global brands, and as an independent freelancer and entrepreneur.

Where did the name Hum & Flow Come From?

The short answer: Thought of it in the shower.

The long answer: That “ah-ha” shower moment was the culmination of a weeks-long creative process of ideation and iteration where hundreds of names were carefully considered, combined, and culled. Pulling possibilities from music and movies, art and history, and more – that list of options grew and narrowed countless times before inspiration struck, the pieces locked into place, and the path became clear.

The name represents freedom and motion.

It’s about tapping into an energy that you can hear and feel.

It’s about dancing to the pulsing rhythm of the universe.

It’s about doing the work to paddle out into the waves and maintaining the practiced balance to ride them back in to shore.

It’s about creating an unexpected combination that just makes sense. Finding new and unexpected ways to mix the ingredients around us into something as delicious, portable, and nostalgically nourishing as peanut butter & jelly, or as loud and moving as rock & roll.

It’s about the hum you feel when you look up at the stars and remember you are part of a system tens of trillions of times bigger than yourself, or press your ear to a shell on a rocky beach and listen the flow of your own blood thumping to the beat of your heart.

It’s connection and creation.
