Case Study: Designing Goodwin University’s New Mobile Classroom vehicle wrap

Goodwin University is a career-focused nonprofit college in East Hartford, CT, dedicated to equipping students with practical skills for the workforce. In their ongoing effort to expand educational opportunities, Goodwin recently added a custom-built 55-foot mobile classroom trailer to their offerings. This innovative mobile classroom enables the university to bring a full classroom experience on-site to partners throughout the state.

A Learning Leviathan

Sure, fifty-five feet sounds pretty big, but seeing it in person puts the scale of the mobile classroom trailer into perspective in a way pictures can’t. Taking our first look at the vehicle once it arrived onsite in CT, we realized it’s not just big… it is absolutely enormous — the perfect blank canvas for big, bold, impactful messaging.

Crafting a Detailed design template

With measuring tape and notebook in hand, we built a detailed schematic of the trailer, accounting for the various doors, windows, hatches, and ports so that we could accurately place design elements without any unfortunate surprises when the graphic wrap was applied.

Adding additional details to our digital template also helped visualize what the finished product would look like, bridging the gap between our concepts and the real world and helping to earn early buy-in from stakeholders.

Iterating Design Concepts

Meeting with the client, we quickly landed on themes of forward motion and momentum, highlighting both the mobility of the classroom and the core brand theme for the University of taking innovative approaches to make education more accessible.

Like a conventional billboard, we also had to make sure the message was boldly attention-attracting yet simple enough to be understood and retained by drivers spotting the classroom hauling down I-84 and I-91.

Wrapping it up and Rolling Out The Completed Project

The final design was then handed off the the wrap experts at Image360 in Wallingford, CT for production and application, and now you can spot the mobile classroom crisscrossing Connecticut on its mission to deliver high-quality educational experiences.

“We had a first-rate experience working with Hum & Flow on branding and wrapping Goodwin University’s newest mobile classroom. Not only was the creative work outstanding, but Caleb’s understanding of the scope of the production was invaluable to the success of the project.”

-Phil Moore, Goodwin University Sr. Director of Marketing and Communications

The project resulted in a bold and memorable mobile classroom vehicle wrap design that not only satisfied the client but also serves as a dynamic advertising tool for Goodwin University. Now seen all over the state, this striking mobile billboard clearly communicates the university’s commitment to continuing education and workforce development.
